Turns out the filter that fits can be bought for $40. Are you seriously suggesting I reinvent the entire water filtration system and cram all that stuff under my sink. Or that I cludge together some kind of Rube Goldberg system that I have to drag out and put away every time I move, just to save $40 a year? Thanks but no thanks.[/QUOT

Are you serious? If you have never done any plumbing I would suggest you just pay for the high priced filter. Helps our economy. It would take about 30 minutes to take that filter housing out and do a professional job. Sorry. Thought you were mechanically able to do that minor mod. I would not suggest it for anyone that has never worked on any plumbing before.

Here's an excellent source for RV filter of any type and excellent reading on what the different filters actually do:

The everpure is a really great filter. 1/2 micron. Great filtration. I only use 5 micron at home and in RV. A $13 filter. Probably $8 to $10 wholesale. If I was in water filter business I would do the same as Everpure. Construct it in a specialized configuration and make $50 profit on every filter. Great business practice. For less than $30 owners can change that and still have the exact same filtration. However, most will choose not to do that.
