How long since you've had the WH cleaned, adjusted and serviced? It should be performed annually.

There is a faster way than waiting to see if the side soots up again. Look at the flame. If it's yellow, it's not right. The flame should be blue, and it should burn evenly. There should be no loud hissing/roaring sounds, no sputtering, and no fluctuation.

Ray, bought camper as-is no warranty... handy-man special... and did my own roof replacement 4 weeks later.... it's a 2005 former cruise America camper and everything with a date on it seems to be original.... including the WH... unless Atwood offers some 15+ year warranty that extends to multiple owners, I'm on my own...

Paz, the flame looks exactly as you described... holding my breath...

Sorry to be so long with a final update... the air adjustment fixed it... never had another problem with it...
