Water pump

While disinfecting my h2o system, I thought I would check out the pump. I disconnected from shore power, started the generator, and turned on the pump. Nothing. Checked the pump-it was humming, but no h2o. I turned the switch from city h2o to tank, still no h2o. Thinking maybe it took a while to prime, I left it on for about 5 minutes - nothing. Any suggestions?

Make sure you do not have a valve set to the wrong position for pumping fresh water from tank into the coach. Check for loose or cracked filter strainer or kinked or loose hose leading to water tank. To test pump; install a short hose to inlet side and put into a bucket of water. Turn pump on and it should pick up and pump water if good.

Just as an aside, why did you switch from shore power to generator? That has nothing to do with pump operation. The water pump is entirely 12vdc.

When did you last use the water pump? Was it working recently or has it been a long time since the last known use?

See if the pump has an intake filter screen. Typically it looks like a semi-clear plastic disc at the intake side of the pump. It may be clogged with sand or debris from the tank. That will prevent the pump from working.

I have never used the pump. I bought the MH last year and have never been anywhere where I had to use it. I will check for a screen and see if there is one.

As for switching from shore to gen power, I was just doing a systems check.

Thanks.

Often there is a drain on the system (not tank) side of the pump. You might try opening that to assist in priming the pump, see if there's water present?
