Water tank valve will not close

So I sanitized the water system, dumped out the water now I cannot get the darn valve closed all the way. It is a gate type valve always been very hard to open and close. I stuck a rod up drain line , nothing seems to be blocking it. Maybe someone has an idea, otherwise tomorrow I will be at hardware store looking at how the valve is made and put together. Not the easiest place to get at, I hate to think about trying to cut it out and replace.

I feel your pain...same thing happened to me. I guess it's that the drain valve doesn't get much work. I was lucky in that our drain valve was very close to the outlet, so I was able to spray some food grade silicone up the pipe and work the valve back and forth to lubricate it. It worked...good luck.

If the valve has a removable 'bonnet' (that nut under the handle) remove it, wind out the stem and gate and clean out any crud and try it again. Also, there is sealing packing of some sort on the valve shaft that may be too tight or broken and something you should be able to see and then either fix or replace the entire valve if necessary. Minimal tools but now days, probably metric sizes for wrenches. Then, of course, are those cheap, usually plastic, valves RV builders seem to love that don't disassemble ....

I had the same problem then discovered it was not a gate valve but rather a 90 degree turn ball valve - maybe yours is that simple as well.
