I paid $2.45/gallon yesterday at the Costco in Burlington, WA. Thought the pump had shut off early when I saw the price of a fill-up. I think that although our prices are low at the pump the long-term costs are going to be quite high considering the environmental costs of fracking, a possible pipeline across environmentally fragile land in the Plains States & the Saudis being oppositional & continuing production. It's all connected...

The way I understand it, they get a lot more gasoline than diesel from a gallon of crude. In those days of really cheap crude, it did not matter how much gas or diesel they got from a gallon, and since diesel was much easier to get from crude, the price of diesel was much lower. Now diesel is higher to compensate for the lost revenue they could have gotten had they produced only gasoline. If there is an expert out there, please enlighten us. Thanks

Not all crude oil is the same.......BUT What Does One Barrel of Crude Oil Make - California Gas Prices
As far as diesel fuel, stays high, especially in the winter months due to sharing the market with home heating oil, and the main reason for fuel high prices.......is what it takes to refine and the costs to make 15PPM ULSD. $$$$$$$$$

quote: to produce ULSD the refining industry had to invest approximately $8 billion in infrastructure upgrades and the daily production costs for ULSD are higher than LSD, since the fuel requires more refining.
