what brand of mechanic coveralls to buy?
greetings,
i'm about to lean into refreshing our new-to-us coach and would like to have some quality coveralls to wear while i'm working in the dirty bits. i'm hard on clothes and a sweaty-type so they need to be durable and as breathable as possible.
thx in advance for your feedback.

Kind of a hard combo ( durable /breathable ) at the dealership we had c/alls from a rental service . The material was ACID proof , lasted for years but , not breathable .
Now I'm retired , I have 2 sets , of coveralls from Princess Auto ( Canadian , like Harbor Freight in USA ) 7+ years and I haven't worn them out .
Sweat ; while that's another story , out of the coveralls into the shower.

Sears used to sell excellent work clothing. They even had a separate catalog. Dunno if they still do.

When I work under the coach or other very dirty or greasy environment, I use paper/plastic painters coveralls. I can usually get two or three uses out of a pair & then toss.

Durability carhart fits the bill for me. I use their bibs which helps substantially with the cooling though they can still be warm. For arm protection with them sometimes if warm just a short sleeve t shirt otherwise a long sleeve t shirt. Both of which I have set aside one or two of each that I could care less how dirty or bad looking they get (ie get the grease or whatever stains out). When they are thoroughly trashed I just designate a new (usually the next crappiest one I have on hand)one to be the sacrificial shirt. I have gotten many years of wear out carhart bibs. One thing is they start out pretty darn stiff but the more washes the softer they get and after a while are quite comfortable.
Also by using bibs I don't feel nearly as constricted as I do in full coveralls.

I have worn Carharts unlined made with the tan duck material, fine in the cooler months and very durable but you will cook. They make one out of twill but its obviously not as durable. I wore them for work so obviously more wear and tear than a weekly project so I think the thinner twill ones will last long enough. Ive also worn ones provided by a uniform company those were the lightest but I wasn't working outside. The twill ones are also fire resistant.
The part that wore out on mine were the knees and the top of the thighs. I had a seamstress sew on Dacron knee/thigh covers on the outside. They had to be altered anyway because they didnt(don't?) make functional clothing for short women. lol Sometimes I just wore EMT pants which already had reinforced knees.
If you are going to be scooting under the rig you might have enough room to use a mechanics dolly.

I go to a thrift store and buy khaki pants and gray t-shirts. I do not own decent clothes in these colors. Gray and khaki go into a separate laundry basket, are washed separately, and are thrown away without hesitation of they get too greasy or ugly.
I have been known to RUIN a set in 1/2 hour. I discarded three sets in three days when I replaced my coach shocks and air bags.
Cost for pants is usually about $5, maybe $2.50 if a sale, shirts run about $2. I keep about 10 of each.

Dickies makes a good heavy cotton C/all. I've bough mine at Wallyworld or online.

I keep a pair in the trunk of the Toad, Lightweight and easy on off - just walk into Wal*Mart and pick them out - when done with the work, wash them up and pack them away for future use, Yes, there will be Future Use.
