I've been in the individual market for 27 years.
When shopping for insurance several years ago before the ACA and long before I had a heart attack my wife and myself were denied coverage from 3 companies because of preexisting conditions.
The wife had a 3 hour hospital stay 2 years prior to the application for a stomach virus, she was severely dehydrated, our doctor sent her to the ER to get IVs and some medication so she could eat. She was discharged and had a follow up 3 days later at our primary care doctor. That was considered a pre existing condiotion.
I had a high blood pressure reading in my doctors office when I had the flu. The insurance companies decided that untreated hypertension even though my blood pressure was normal.
That forced us to stay with our current insurance company not allowing me to shop for better rates until the ACA passed.
Sound absurd? That's the kind of denials going on before the ACA.
And don't get me started about lifetime caps. Before the ACA I had a million dollar cap. I've used about 500 grand in benefits due to my heart disease. It's conceivable I get to that cap if they remove those protections.
Then what? Then I lose my house and your taxes end up paying for my care or I just die.
Off handed comments like your shows some people really have no clue about the consequences to certain aspects of the health care situation.
The current system is still broken but going backwards is not the solution.
