What kind of scam is Camping World running ?

I saw a Camping World ad for a 50amp Auto Former so I stopped at an outlet, none in stock, back ordered. Went on their web-site, back ordered till 8-7. Next time I checked now back ordered until 8-14. I called their order dept and was told I could order it and it would be shipped after the 14th. I called 8-20 and was told it is still back ordered and they don't know when it will come in. I called again and said to cancel the order, now I was told that they have it in their warehouse ! I don't know what kind of games they are playing but I don't want any so I ordered it on Amazon and got it in two days.

It sounds like the supplier was having an inventory issue.

I've read about CW doing this many times over the past 15 years of reading the 3 major online RV'ing forums. They have your money and get to earn interest off of it and keep you hooked with empty promises. A good reason to always use your Credit Card and know when the cut off date for a claim and back charge is if they've already charged it. NEVER use your debit card unless it's a point of sale purchase. I really don't know if their system is this screwed up or if they truly don't know when the shipment of sales items is suppose to arrive or if it's shear incompetence. Seldom hear about this kind of bait and switch tactic from other retailers. I wonder about their ethics sometimes...

Another reason I won't do business with them.

I got the same back ordered run around a while back. I had ordered a Weber Q Grille. After about three weeks of double talk I cancelled and brought it from Home Depot. A few weeks later I was in a CW, and the Weber brand was gone. It was replaced with their own Chinese knock off.
I refuse to do business with them anymore.....PPL is a good place for specific RV stuff. Lot more knowledgeable people, helpful, usually at a pretty competitive price.

PPLMotorhomes.com

They don't depend on warranty/roadside assist programs/insurance for their income. They sell stuff and price it right, and move a LOT of used units by consignment.
AND, don't have a Marcus to alienate people...

Amazon warehouses the material separate from the manufacturer. Especially Prime eligible products. So they can ship ASAP and meet their promises. Their shipping logistics are second to none.

My guess is camping world has fast turn products in their warehouse as well and when out of stock, will have the manufacturer ship direct which takes the time. CW's warehousing and shipping logistics is no match for Amazon.

This is more a manufacturer issue than it is a camping world issue. Being someone in the manufacturing world, we have had to buy products that are 32 weeks lead time. After paying an expedite fee to get it in 30 weeks, we are told its going to be 2 more weeks. then 2 weeks later, its going to be another week, a week later its going to be 2 weeks more.

This stuff seems to happen more often than not. Tons of demand, little supply. Amazon warehouses their own inventory where camping world most likely drop ships theirs from their suppliers for anything that isn't a "hot ticket item" this keeps their inventory costs down where amazon isn't concerned with having millions if not billions of dollars of inventory sitting.

There is nothing illegal about commingling of funds in this situation. It is only illegal to commingle in certain circumstances specified in the law, such as in real estate transactions.

I ordered the Autoformer under back order from CW on July 20th, received it today. By being patient and waiting a month for delivery, I saved $100 over Amazon's price.
