Much more useful for us.

Tires and Batteries

We are getting ready for our October 25 departure from our home in Northern NH. We just bought 6 new tires and 8 new house batteries. The steer tires were only 3 years old so we put them on the tag axle and put the 6 new Michelins (295/80R/22.5s purchased through the FMCA - Michelin program) on the steer and drive axles. They replaced tires that were ten years old....so it was time.
The batteries are AGM as I am tired of having to deal with the gassing and subsequent corrosion from the wet cell batteries. As we all know, AGM's are more $$ but the no maintenance feature to me is worth it. Will install these 8 in series after cleaning the battery compartment of all the corrosive rust that has accumulated from the gassing. Painting the compartment with a bed liner undercoating spray after treating it with a rust prevention process.
So tires and batteries are our latest purchases (big $$ but necessary)....and when we get to our first stop, Precision Paint the last week of this month, we have the X bracing done.....fingers crossed that will stop our windshield from popping out.

What voltage are the batteries? 8, 6 volt would be a accumulative voltage of roughly 48-50.4 volts and 8, 12 volt batteries would be 96-100.8 volts.

We recently bought new tires too. Luckily ours are not as big as yours, so it was a little easier on the bank account.

+1. I can't think of a scenario where you'd connect 8 AGM batteries in series. If they are 6v, you'd wire 4 pairs in series, and those pairs in parallel to get to 12V. If they are 12v (most likely), they'd all be wired in parallel.

6 volt "golf cart" batteries as they are "true deep cycle" batteries that last longer than a typical 12V battery. That's the circulated theory anyway.....due to heavier plate construction I think. As to the wiring, they are in two separate 4 battery bank systems, each set of 4 wired in series. This is how TS set it up for an all electric coach. Hope this helps.

...if I understand you, would yield 24V or 48V depending on how the two 4-battery banks are wired together.

Actually it was 4 - 2 battery banks.
In parallel that would yield 12 - 12 - 12 - 12 for a total of 12.

I think he misstated his application.

I think so too, and that's what I said in post #2916 above. He corrected me to say it was 2 banks of 4, each bank wired in series, which could only yield 48V or 96V, either would damage his coach.

Suffice to say, if he is wiring these himself, he's not really gotten it right yet and might hurt his coach (which is the point of my postings, to help him to avoid that). I'll step back on the matter, I hope he does it right.

Basically I was trying to add a touch of levity. If it didn't come across that way I apologize.
