Haven't seen that yet. How would the state even know what you bought unless the retailer reports it? Might as well get it while the getting is good. Places like Camping World are crazy. I would NEVER buy anything there or let them work on my coach, and not just because of taxes.

Phil, I have not been a resident of California since 2009 so I can't tell you what they are doing. I am now a resident of Massachusetts and on their 2015 tax return they ask if you made any purchases outside the Commonwealth that you did not pay Mass sales tax on 😱.

California does ask the same question, to which I resoundingly say no. We already have the highest taxes in the U.S. Our governor wants even more to pay for his insane billion dollar bullet train. I'm not giving him anymore than I have to...

This does not address the issue of where the transaction took place and where the tax is due. They are taking the position that you are a resident of their state so you owe them the tax, but what if you purchased the item in another country? And are they willing to refund the difference if you pay a higher tax? Lots of questions.
NY tried that on their income tax form about 5 years ago. It probably cost them more in printer's ink on the form then what was collected.

You pay sales tax to a seller only if they have a store or manufacturing in a particular state which they then have to remit to the state. Amazon tried to fight that ... and lost. Some of the sidebar sellers on Amazon and listed as other sellers of an item are only represented by Amazon and don't charge sales tax and something that has saved me, inadvertently, a couple bucks.

Strange, I just did my CA income tax and there was no such question.

Heading your way from San Diego to visit our daughter in Fairbanks in June. She is an RN working downtown.
