I had an empty 2 liter bottle with about 6 small holes drilled in the plastic and mothballs inside under the hood of my Class C. Pack rats moved in and did $1200 damage. I posted about this and a retired exterminator pointed out that rats live in the most foul smelling of places and mothballs don’t work. They sure didn’t for me !

I put glue boards on 4-5 flat surfaces under the hood now and keep a loaded bait station nearby at the places where I spend long summer and winter stays. (Seattle and southern Arizona)

I've caught 9 vermin with the glue boards - 8 in Arizona and 1 while we were traveling between winter and summer spots. I buy glue boards in packs of 30.

I think someone in that area is collecting refrigerator hatches. I lost mine a few years ago in the same area. Like yours, My new one still does not have the stripes 3 years later. Hope your grows stripes sooner than mine did.

In my previous post I mentioned buying the new EMS PT30X Portable RV Surge Suppressor. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice to actually try it out BEFORE we head down the coast?".

So over to Lowes, bought the 30 AMP outside box and installed it.

Of course I had to find an unused 30 AMP circuit which I did. So it should be an easy install!

Details.....always pay attention to the details...sigh.

Ran the 10 gauge existing wire to the outside, hooked up the box, attempted to measure the voltage but the probe's I had on the DVM didn't quite fit into the openings and I was unable to get any reading. No problem, I'll just plug in my EMS and see what I get.

E05 Error: Line 2 High Voltage.

Hmm, went back down and actually LOOKED at the circuit breaker...it's actually TWO breakers tied together!!

Well of COURSE the voltage is too high, I just plugged into a 240v 30 AMP OUTLET!!

So pulled off the connector that tied the two circuit breakers together, moved the neutral down to the grounding bar and retested, TADAH!, 115v @ 30 AMP and NOW I can see exactly how much amperage my one AC unit is pulling when the compressor starts up, 16 AMPs. Which explains why we kept blowing our 15 amp circuit breaker when we were plugged into the little 115v outlet.

Anywho, lesson learned (DETAILS!) and here's a picture of the finished installed. I did add a lock just for practice so no one will be tempted to take my surge suppressor.

I'm glad those folks over at EMS had me (or idiots like me) in mind when they designed this thing. Saved me from frying my rig!

Where did you get the vent fan? I need to replace the fan on the roof over the kitchen.

Mike, there are 2 major brands - Max-Air and Fantastic Fans. Each has several different options. Amazon and all RV dealers sell them.

Thanks!

As per usual, the part on the Clarion is weird. It's round on the inside and outside. When we get to cutting the roof for the antenna and solar panel, I'll see if we can cut a larger hole for a standard fan.

Mike,

Some more talented folks have made there own vent fans using large computer fan parts. It might be better than cutting your roof. What's the saying about square peg in a round hole? Your RV is one odd duckling.

Bummer. And today I got three roof vent covers to replace the 2 hail damaged ones and the 3rd cheap, thin, brittle one that the hail missed.
