I bought a new Interstate Mega Tron Plus starter battery. The one in my RV had a dead cell in it. and the side was bulged out. Less than 4 years old. They replaced it under warranty. A battery that costs $179.00 bucks for $85.72 tax lic. out the door.

$4.48 Slide bolt gate latch.

1 hour of modifications (re-bend 2 tabs, drill a new hole) and fitting and I now have a lock for my A&E 9000 awning. Used only factory holes.

Can use the factory awning hook to lock/unlock.

Here it is installed

Very interesting! Have you tested it out? Did you have a problem with your awning coming out while driving in a windy area? (thats the issue we had the day we picked up the motorhome so we had to tie wrap it)

kat-nda-sand,

Took a trip several weeks ago. Was really windy out on the way there. When we arrived and set up camp, I found that the awning had partially unrolled. Luckily I was able to re-roll and only needed to replace 2 loose bolts to the coach.

We went out last weekend and it got windy on the way there, again. I saw the rear awning post moving outward in the mirror. We stopped and I used a piece of all-thread and a bungee chord to tie it down. (all-thread in hole in awning roll and bungeed to the pole) Solved the problem for the trip.

People have made their on locking mechanism, search the threads. Several are available for purchase from different manufacturers.

Decided I could make my own. A few measurements, a little thought and a few sketches and there it is. I am a tinkerer.

My old rv had a Carefree awning. It locks in the closed position. No extra lock was needed.

Mike

Great job! Was there something you saw/felt that indicated you didn't need to do both sides of the slide?

Well, the roller is one piece form end to end. Keep it from turning and the awning won't unfurl.

After I put the all-thread and bungee on the front end the rear leg didn't move anymore.

After a week of very hight temps and no shade I ordered a second AC. Can't get the Carrier it was wired for. Found a wireless controller for the Duo Therm so it is on its way. May get to the house around the time I get home. Added the heat element since the ducting is metal through the ceiling.

Cyclone sewer vent cap for the black tank. Very hot here in the desert, and I don't "need" to empty the tank for 4 weeks at a time. Even when I flushed toilet REALLY fast, it let a stink in. There seems to always be a breeze (and some days a roar) here, so hope it does the job.
