Question WhatType Insurance Coverage Do You Carry

Do you have Replacement Value to cover modifications or upgrades or Replacement Value that may/will not cover your additions?

I was thinking earlier this evening that my RV Upgrade thread might serve as a record for my higher coverages as required by my agent then I got to thinking with all the great upgrading threads made by many if the thought of replacement value occurred to them.

It would be easy enough to over look and some of these upgrades are sure to have increased the values to more than their original insured values, it would be a shame to see someone come up short on coverage if it were ever needed.

Agreed value for what we paid. Should check into that as we paid $50,000 to $70,000 less than NADA retail. Might need to increase it.
The poll doesn't have a place to mark agreed value since its not replacement nor actual.

Ours is thru State Farm and it is Replacement Cost based on the MSRP of the MH, not what we actually paid for it. So it does include all the upgrades that were there when we bought it. Ours is new so we haven't really added anything to it, other than the normal stuff you need. They told us to keep the receipts as we have replacement costs on that too.

Ours too is agreed value. Not on your list. Agreed value is what we paid for the coach.

My State Farm agent had no idea how to quote a motorhome, so they was way higher than everyone else.

Our MH policy is $890 this year, last year(the year we purchased it was $870), our Agent said that is about where it will balance out for the next few years and then start going down from there. I would go to another dealer. On another thread a State Farm Dealer told the poster that State Farm no longer insured MH's so he went elsewhere. After seeing that was wrong he hit up his agent again, who did his research this time, and got a really reasonable rate.

Shoot ... a policy that cheap? Texas here and my rates are just like my home taxes or whatever you call it. Like 4X for the one quoted here. I guess I need to change my deductible from $500 to a higher figure. There must be some tricks to this to get a lower rate. HELP!!!

Shop till you drop. It cost a whole pocketbook full of money to get full replacement cost on your dollar amount. Agreed, lowers the out of pocket money. I believe that figure is based upon low NADA retail? I've kept the replacement value high for three years and the premium, after exhaustive searches has maintained around $1700 to $1800 yearly. After trying to trade the past couple of months a realizing what NADA wholesale value is, that's all your getting on trade value, I'm lowering the value to agreed upon. Hopefully saving some money. At some point one has go accept the inevidible and lower your standards. Bummer!

Good luck on it ever dropping, My State Farm coverage on the motorhome went up every year for the 4 years I had it with them. My auto and homeowners has also gone up every year for a long time.

I would get that agent to sign a contract. That says he will pay for any increase over what you are paying now.

As over the last 13 years of owning my present MH. The Insurance has increased almost every year and at the same time the MH is worth less every year.

In 2003 it was $644 a year in 2015 it is $1,090 for the same policy.
MH has depreciated around 50K over that time.

Like I said, I have everything I own insured thru State Farm, plus the Umbrella Covering everything. So maybe that makes a difference. So far none of my policies have gone up, with the exception of the MH, it went up $20 from the original first year quote. I have two houses(minimal change in one over 20 years, and the other no change after 4 years even though the value has increased) and several vehicles that have went down a few dollars, since what the insurance was at when brand new.

I would fully expect things to change a little over the years as liability issues and repair costs seem to be changing things that affect rates. I would never ask my Agent to sign anything like Triker suggests. All I can say is I have checked my rates to see if anything else out there can beat it, and they can't. I would say my Agent is being honest with me based on what he knows today, and being a long term customer that hasn't jumped around with Insurance companies on every new purchase, I highly doubt he is going to lie to me and ruin that relationship. I still think $890 a year on a brand new MH with replacement coverage was reasonable. They could have way over quoted it and forced me to look elsewhere but so far they have kept my rates on everything fairly reasonable.
