When does new model year RV inventory reach the dealers?

I wasn't sure where to post this overly-basic question and risk annoying those who complain about "cluttering these forums with questions":

When does new model year RV inventory reach the dealers?

And if I'm looking at a used fifth-wheel labeled "2007", when was it probably manufacturer and purchased new?

Here is an article that got me thinking about these topics:

Do we want Washington dictating model year changes? > RV Daily Report |

[I have sometimes used the "Internet Wayback Machine" to find the product specs and original advertising material on used RVs I'm considering. So, for example, I used it to look at the DRV Suites website from September 2008 to look at a 2007 Select Suites 36' I'm considering. That search was well worth the effort but I was surprised to see that the headline in 9/2008 was for the new 2011 models! So I'm a bit confused.]

(Thank you for your patience with a novice.)

RVs are like most other vehicles. The new models will usually begin arriving at dealerships well before the "actual" model year.

Your 5th wheel should have a sticker with the manufacturing date somewhere on it. Good luck.

Yes, but as I shop only a minority of sellers include a photo of that sticker in their ads. So that is why I'm curious if there are any general rules I could use. But based on your answer, it sounds like it can be quite difficult to know just from the model year designation alone.

Thanks for commenting!

I could understand the point if you were looking at recent models, but if you're shopping 6-to-7-year-old units, what difference does it make?

It is different for every manufacturer. It also depends on when the dealer ordered and took delivery. It also depends on if the manufacturer ran out of parts for the current model year. Usually they just start making the next model year. The 14's for Newmar have been at the dealer lots since the middle of summer.

Read the VIN number. The 10th character is the model year. Manufacturing year only means when it was made.
