When to start looking
Hello All,
It is coming quickly, yes RETIREMENT!!!!!. It is in about 7-8 years. My question is, when and where to start looking for that Class A. We will be selling house to purchase our new home, so looking for some help>>

As for timing, I'd start looking a year prior to selling the house.

I would start LOOKING now. The more you look, the more you learn about what you want and don't want. Just don't buy until the year before you're ready to go.

We purchased our Class A two years out. Seemed to be the right time and it worked out great as we took a 1500 mile trip to Las Vegas right after retirement. Our coach is vintage but it is sweet!

We ordered our retirement MH in 2000 but I had retired in Jan 1999, then in 2002 we moved up to a bigger rig with one more slide. Then last year we traded the '02 off on the present 45' quad slide MH. Problem is I'm still working and the DW has liver cancer. There just is no set/good time

Glad you joined us here in the forum. 
It's never too early to start looking. There are so many options out there, and you want to make sure you are getting what you need, and what you want. Go to the shows, visit the dealers. Make comparisons.
Get serious a year in advance.

If you're planning to buy used when you retire, research models now; find a floorplan you like and make note of the model number that interests you. Then when you're ready to look for a RV you'll know exactly what RV to search for. If you're retiring in 8 years you might wait to zero in about 3-4 years prior for a more recent used RV.

I think I would wait until you're a couple of years out from retirement. Things can change a lot between now and then!

I would agree with those who advise you start looking now.
My wife and I were in a similar situation a few years ago except that we didn't agree on what we should buy. She was interested in 5th wheel, class c and b's as well as looking at class a's. I wanted an A DP but she was afraid she couldn't drive it. After a couple test drives she was more comfortable behind the wheel.
We came across the coach we bought, a 10 month used Tiffin Allegro RED 33aa, while driving north from Florida a couple years ago. Because we had done our homework we knew the coach was a good one and the price was fair. We grabbed it and are very happy with our decision.

Look around now to get an idea of what you want, what you don't want, what brands you want on your short list. As part of your due diligence, pay attention to what the NADA Guide lists as far as Suggested List Price, Low Retail, and Average Retail Prices. You also have the ability to input all known options you want. Especially good if you are considering a used coach.

I have the same plan, I'm 5 years out, I went to Tampa RV show last year, figure I was shopping new coaches that I would buy Used when retire. I have started selling and unloading junk and working on fixing up the house to sell, 5 years sneaks up on you petty fast

One thing to be aware of is a coach older than 10 years is hard to find financing for. If you are planning on a coach older than 10 years I would work on finding a lender. When I was looking I found several that were killer deals but couldn't get financing.

Gee, I just went to the dealer and bought the one my wife liked best. Isn't that the "Proper" procedure?
She seemed to think so.
