We have the King Quest portable DirecTv satellite. It works just fine for us as you don't have to worry about wooded area as much.

Traveller 1000. It's large reflector provides performance on par with a home antenna - resistance to rain fade, weak signal, etc. With Direct I believe it's the only RV antenna that provides high definition reception. I am a Dish user, so will ask someone more familier with Direct to confirm the HD point.

The Trav'ler 3000 series is for DirecTV. It does provide for HD reception unlike any dome dish.
The RF Mogul Eagle is similar.

This is correct. If you want HD the Trav'ler is the best option if you want it mounted. There are portable models also at TV4RV: Satellite - Tripod - Slimline - Dish - DirectTV: satellite and Internet for RV - Recreational Vehicles - RVers - DishTV - Satellite Dish - FTA - Tripod.

The Portable dome King Quest supplies an HD signal for DirecTv.

People are all over the place so far.
Travler 1000 series is Dish only and OP is asking about Directv
Travler 3000 series was replaced years ago
Travler SK-SWM is the current Direct HD automatic roof top dish and is around 1500 dollars on sale. And is not suitable for wooded locations.
Now, what is your budget and what do you want to accomplish?
For less than 200 dollars you can buy a complete dish/tripod assembly compatible with Directs latest equipment. Meaning SWM setup. To that you will probsbly need to add 50 to 100 feet of coax, plus do some wiring in your RV to ensure a direct feed from dish to receiver.

We have a roof top Wingard DirecTV dish and have never had to pull out the portable we have carried since we installed the rooftop unit. The portable just takes up valuable storage space in my opinion. My spouse does not agree. We are smart enough to look for campsites that will accommodate our rooftop dish. If we are in the rare campsite that we cannot use our rooftop unit, then we just watch shows we have recorded on our DVR.

I have the old MotoSat HD dish and the Eagle 1 controller, works great and will receive HD if I ever decide to upgrade my service.

Not according to the published specs, says SD only.

Which satellite dish works best
Of the two you listed both are very capable. The RF mogul eagle has some interesting features in the way it finds Sat's it's control unit is different ( better - faster ?) the winegard is the elephant of the rooftops and slightly ( a lot ) lower in price from a company that's not going anywhere.
I ended up with a Winegard for dish on the roof when I bought my current rig and it works well.
That said , On my own I might have gone with the RF Mogul just because I like the smaller company and the cool features it has Hey! it's set up For a cool led light on it ! Lol

The Eagle 1 controller is fast to find the sat as it has it's own GPS built in with an external GPS antenna. In fact when I installed and turned it on the first time it found and locked on in just over two min. from beside my house and I didn't think it would even work there.
When (not if) the MotoSat motors go out I'll get the RF Mogul dish.

I've had the Wingard Travlr for 5 years now. Signal strength is very good and we love the automatic function. Do carry a Tailgater but have only needed to use it a handful of times in the last five years.

Eagle, RF Mogul, roof mount. The controller is inside and this unit can be self repaired without having to be dependent on a rv/wineguard dealers.
