According to the Ford Transmission Spotters Guide on the Ford Enthusiasts website, the 4R100 was introduced on the 1999 truck chassis. The E4OD was used from 1989-1998. Prior to that the C6 was the tranny. See Ford Tranny Spotter's Guide

That's not an official Ford publication, but that website is nearly always accurate.

You have to take into consideration that strange phenomena called the build date vs the model year vs actual year.

Examples:

My 1996 F-250 HD was built in October, 1995.

My 2000 Jayco TT was built in October, 1999.[/list]I don't believe there are any model year 1998 Ford F series heavy (or super) duties because the new design super duty was brought out in early 1998 as a 1999 model year truck. There is a 1998 model year Ford F-250 but it's in the same styling as the 1998 F-150 and not a heavy (or super) duty.

Ford did a similar thing in early 1996 when it brought out its new design F-150 as a 1997 model and sold both it and the old design 1996 F-150.

Sure makes things confusing, huh?

quote:

looks like my chassis may be a 99..Looks like F53 did'nt come out till 99, even tho my coach says it was built in 98..

The chassis VIN will identify the model year of the chassis, which may be different than the model year of the coach as a whole, as stated in the vehicle title. The chassis VIN might identify it as a year earlier, same year or sometimes even a year later!

Not sure what you meant when you said "...F53 did'nt come out till 99". The F53 chassis has been around far longer than that, but it didn't get the 4R100 tranny until 1999. Nor did the F-series trucks.

Here's a URL that will decode your VIN for you. The 10th digit is the model year, but I don't know for sure what letter represents 1998. This decoder will tell you everything that can be learned from a Ford VIN. Ford VIN Decoder
