Which Water Filter

My wife and I are new to camping and so far we both really enjoy the experience. We know different campgrounds have different water quality but were wondering which external water filter is the best choice. There are so many it is almost overwhelming to pick. In particular we are looking for the best choice water filter to reduce or eliminate odor. Any recommendations are appreciated.

If it were me, I would go with a two 10" filter housing system plumbed together. Put a sediment filter in the first one from the hose bib and a charcoal filter in the second. Since you specify exterior, be sure to get white filter housings and not clear. That will net allow sunlight to promote algae growth.

I bought residential whole house water filter from a hardware store. About 12 bucks plus filters. Placed it in-line on the water hose, in a dollar store bucket with a hole in the bottom placed upside down to hold the filter.
Filters are cheap. Quite pricey if it says "RV" on them

I have used a GE SmartWater filter for 11 years. It uses the standard cartridges available at hardware stores .
I use sediment filters if I am going to be storing water in the fresh water tank for any lenght of time and charcoal if not.

The housing costs about $20 and the charcoal cartridges about 2 for $13 dollars. The hose fittings are extra. I also use quick disconnects.

There are many types of water filters and filtration systems. You want to put together a filtration system that will best suit your needs. If you only take the RV out a few times each season, your needs are going to be much different than someone who lives in their RV full-time.

A quick revisit on the water filter question. I just got this from Amazon and like it a lot. I just wanted to get rid of all the plastic water bottles. Because of the way we use our coach, and live in the northeast, I winterize at least 3 times a year. I wanted to have something I could pull out real easy and not ruin by freezing or antifreeze. It came with a carbon filter that seems to work good. Best part for me is I can take it in or out in 1 minute. And it was about $35.00.
