Who makes this engine?

I see a lot of posters talking about the Cummings engine and wonder who makes that, it's certainly not one I'm familiar with.

Cummins not cummings IS the manufature. They have been in business for many years supplying class 8 truck builders. In the Dodge pickup one ton is a small version when it is diesel.

I think the OP was being facetious, many posters say Cummings instead of the correct Cummins. Just my take

I don't know who makes "Cummings" engines. However if you are referring to "Cummins" they are made in Columbus, IN. Google them. I think that it is referred to as the Mid Engine Plant.

They have made millions of the small 5.9L and up in size for industrial use, road graders, back hoes, air compressors, emergency power generators etc.

Also millions for farm equipment, tractors, combines, harvesters etc.

Also millions for MOHO's and Ram Trucks.

And again millions for OTR trucks.

And Prime Power engines running on Natural Gas up to 400 HP. The ISC is a Very Popular driver in the Gas Compression Industry producing about 220 HP on natural gas at 1800 RPM.

They have been around for a few years.

The Little Engine That Did - On the Road - TruckingInfo.com

Quote:
This particular engine Dates back to 1919 and was probably hand-built by Clessie Cummins himself under a license from the Dutch-born engine maker, R.M. Hvid (pronounced Veed).

According to some notes from a website devoted to old engines, R.M. Hvid had developed and patented a fuel delivery system for compression-ignition engines. Rather than build engines himself, he sold licenses to use his patented fuel delivery system on engines built by others, the notes suggest. Clessie Cummins had one of those licenses, and he produced the plucky little red engine you see here.

"This isn't THE first engine, but that one would have been very similar to this one," Watts explained. "We're actually still trying to figure out which one this is. There are two different numbers on it -- on the base and on the top -- neither of them is in the location it should be, so there's some discrepancy there. I'm not sure if we'll ever know which engine was the original."

Watts says this type of engine was produced under the name Cummins Oil Engine, and this one would likely have been built within the first two months of the company becoming incorporated.

Seems that regardless of spelling it is a well known engine.

I have one of those tractor motors in my truck.

The Cummings is a Chinese knockoff of the US made Cummins powerhouse motor. Everyone knows that

Cummins also uses Komatsu engine's with Cummins name and color on them in some of their applications.

iRV2 is a place for serious RV related questions.
But it is "possible" that Mentor's question was an attempt to "subtly educate".
If it was me thinks Mentor is a "WISE-GUY know-it-all"... (not to be trusted).

Coaches with Cummings engines definitely use chassis breaks to help stop. Cummings engines may or may not have engine breaks or exhaust breaks.

I do know my Cummins ISX has an engine brake (3 stage to be exact), and my Kenworth chassis has air brakes.
