Who’s making the tires?

For some time now I have been reading old and new posts on tires. It seems any tire that does not have a well name brand is made in china. In my internet search I ran across a DOT list that tells you where a tire is manufactured, http://www.harriger.com/tire4.htm, should answer a lot of questions about tires.

This has to be an OLD list. They have not made Uniroyal tire in Kitchener Ontario Canada for 10 years. Michelin bought them out & closed the plants. So I do not know how accurate the rest of the list is. The same as Dunlop Tires. Not made in Whitby Ontario Canada for years.

This list only tells you where tires were made, not necessarily are made. There are several pages to the list. It tells you by Manufactures code where they were made. The main page, link at bottom of the referenced page, explains that some of the locations have been closed or sold and equipment moved to other locations.

As Bob says, this is a list of the DOT codes assigned to various manufacturing plants. It does not mean tires are still made there today. The purpose of the code is to be able to identify the actual manufacturer if there needs to be an investigation or recall.

Note that well-known brands of tires may be made in plants located in China. Michelin, Goodyear and others have factories there and may have certain models of tires made there for sale in the USA. Presumably they are still made to the company's specs and quality standards, regardless of the location of the factory.
