Why air up?
I've always used the word "inflate" to describe adding air pressure to a tire. Yet the vast majority of people on this forum use the term "air up". Is there a reason I'm not aware of, or am I just being a blow-hard?

Don't confuse "airing up" which is inflating the air bags on diesel pushers, with inflating the tires.

In the off road community we also refer to airing up when putting air in our tires. We let air out when rock crawling and then air up when going back out on the highway. Simple play on words for meaning the same thing. If you like to inflate, then inflate away.

Why does it matter if someone uses "inflate" or the term "air up". Life is too short to worry about such things that have no impact on what is important.

That is because if you said you were going to blow up your tires everyone would get scared and run away!

+1...
Reminds me of the man with a bionic arm that was voice controlled.
Everything was fine until he went to the bathroom, and when finished,
he said "Shake it off"..

"Air up" is easier to spell than "inflate"

If it's inflate and deflate then why isn't it air up and air down, or blow up and blow down?
And why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?

Pumped, and unpumped. A flat tire is one that has become 'unpumped'.

Or at McDonalds we use a space for "drive thru parking". What would and Extraterrestrial think he was supposed to do!

That just some common since words that Texans use.
1st off,air up is what you do to tires.
2nd,inflate is what Government does to prices.
