A while back my wife and I were considering a detour on our trip home to go check out a gas pusher. It had everything we wanted in a unit and we were curious as to the difference in noise level as we presently drive a 454+ front engine powered unit. That's the reason I read this thread to start with.

On the whole though, 90% of the respondents on most threads are genuine and there are way less insulting posts on this forum than others. Thanks for that.

I don't think I do, hmmmm, I only respond to those I have an interest, as to either learning something new, or responding with a comment, or even makinga suggestion. Granted sometimes my comments are not exactly acceptable to many, but I can only hope it helps someone.

There is a thread out there currently asking what king of gas mileage people with F 53 gases class As are getting. Of a dozen or so responses, very few answers the question. Most were "who cares?" (Obviously the OP did which is why the question was asked), or "if you are worried about gas mileage you shouldn't own a motorhome" and similar responses.

I recently posted a thread about trying to compare the noise level in DPs to Gas Class As by the use of phone based sound level meter apps. With all the talk about gas vs diesel, I thought we had a bunch of actual measurements there would at least be some numbers to chew on. While I did get a couple of responses (thanks to those who played), mostly I got "this is a waste of time", "those measurements are meaningless", "I don't need some phone to tell me what RV to buy, and of course my favorite was a fellow who told me how many MPG he got on the road.

I guess my question is if you really think a post is stupid or a waste of your time to read, why read it? And if it's a waste of time to read, why take the time to respond?

Crap I can't stand it I want another campfire maybe someone will be along in awhile to help you

Even though the reply is something you didn't expect or is not to your liking, that reply may have very well helped others or given them reason to do more research. Much like your thread on engine noise. Somebody who isn't quite sure which way to go or maybe they can't afford a diesel, and may just forget the whole experience because some make the engine noise sound like a real problem. If it weren't for opposing or experienced views putting in their comments there would be no reason to even start a thread. The whole reason for this forum is to help each other and exchange ideas and experience. There is no reason to question why a person would have input or to assume they are wasting their time by participating. I think everyone wants to share their views and conversation, and that is why they reply.

Thank you OP for saying what I have been thinking. Of course, most forums are like that, and it gets frustrating. "I don't have any information for you, but good luck" or "Here is something I did to my DP that has nothing to do with your travel trailer" (posted in a travel trailer forum), etc. It is painful to go through all these when on the phone app. Please folks, if it isn't helpful to the poster don't post it.

I think it has something to do with the bumper sticker my wife just put on her car.

I think, some people just want to feel part of the conversation, part of the gang, so what is so wrong with that. While reading we can just skip reading a post if one likes, go on to the next one, how much time does that really take out of the day. I don't know, but I really see no harm done.

To be clear, I'm not advocating anyone stop replying to posts. As has been said here this is a great forum and by Internet standards is completely free and devoid of hatred. And for the most part we rarely see nasty posts or obscenities (thank the mods for enforcing policies).

This post wasn't some passive aggressive way to get people to participate or not participate in my diesel vs gas noise measurement thread. It's a stand alone thread about conversations and what does and does not contribute to a discussion. I stated my postition. Others are posting theirs. Some are passionate, some are funny. I like them all.

Just consider, if a post was started "Red or Green Class A's: Which is best?". Does the answer "I like Blue" contribute?. Or the answer "Who cares what color a motor home is, mine is so dirty I can't even tell". I suppose both of those answers contribute in some way to "a" discussion, but not the one the OP was looking for info on. An alternative to posting a "non answer" could be to start your own thread "Who cares what color MHs are?"

Just my 2 cents

One of the reasons I enjoy this forum is due to the friendliness factor. Therefore, If someone is looking for help, and I read the first post or the post and no one has been able to help, and no one has extended a kind friendly word yet, I'll post a I don't know about your problem, but I hope you get an answer soon type post. It lets the poster know they have been heard, someone cares about their problem, and hopefully, help is on the way...
