The older fridge fans that I bought on eBay attached to the fins with alligator clips. This made the fans sit at an odd angle and before long they would start being very noisy. I assume the bearings were wearing out. The newest fan has clips that keep the fan upright. Since the fridge is at the foot of my bed I'm thrilled with the new clips. I hope I see an increased life expectancy and many more quiet nights.

Checking back in with another update.

After a couple of weeks, I have about half as much frost/ice in my freezer, as well. And the fridge holds a MUCH more constant temperature, 34-35 where it used to get up to 37-38 almost every afternoon.

Still ZERO frost and ice in the fridge. The cooling fins sometimes get wet, but the water now drips down to the drain hole, or evaporates(?) but either way, no freezing on the fins.

They are not self defrosting, so if moist air is getting in either through bad gaskets or even opening the door frost is going to form. I figured I needed to defrost about every two weeks.
With the present rig I let the Jenn Air home unit do it.
