Wind Power for RV?

Hello,

I'm buying some land in SoCal. We plan on camping and letting the kids run the 10 acres in their ATVs. There's power about 600 yards from the property. I was thinking instead of spending the 10k (est) to run power I'd look into wind. My rig is a Jayco Seismic wave 400w with a 5.5 k gen. Is there a wind system capable of generating the amount of power I'd need to power the rig and A/Cs? We have plenty of wind in the area, so I wouldn't see a lack. Maybe together with wind and solar I'd be able to make it happen. If you have any knowledge on this please reply. Thanks and happy camping.

Heath

Looks like I can spend about $6k and get 1.7 kw. It would be cheeper to get power to the house.

You have a generator, use it in the interim.

That is also true. I'm also thinking about digging a well or maybe getting a 1500 gal water holding tank. My only concern with that is that I've been deployed to the middle east a bunch. Having water tanks above ground in the desert can lead to HOT water!

Out here where I live, they don't use holding tanks. You have one small pressure tank at your wellhead, and that's it. But my buddy who lives on the outskirts of Palmdale has a huge storage tank, and I can't imagine the water getting too hot in that thing. As far as solar and wind powering up your AC- don't hold your breath!

You can also haul water from the house, Several systems out there for doing that Camping worlds sells one of them.

Wind may or may not blow. but the Sun always shines Consider solar

You can get a solar mixer for a water holding tank. This would prevent water stratification which could lead to anoxia or euxinia.

Get on the grid for the AC...

I spent 2 months in La Posa South long term visitors area in the desert near Quartzsite, AZ. Just left there on Wednesday. I saw several people out there using a combination wind and solar to power their lives. There is a guy named Dwayne that has a total of 5620 watts of solar panels on his RV and the large trailer he tows. He runs a window unit air to air heat pump. He also has 16 golf cart batteries.

Personally, I think conservation is more important than generation. Perhaps you can build a carport or garage to house your RV protecting it from the mid day heat. Add some solar panels to the roof. If you plan to dig a well for water perhaps a ground source heat pump?

With solar you can add more capacity as time goes by. The $10,000 to run power lines is an upfront cost. Look at all the options.

Good luck!
