Winnebago Journey 39K

I have an opportunity to go from a 03 Newmar Scottsdale on a Workhorse chassi to a Winnebago Journey DP on the Freightliner chassi. I am wondering if this is a good move. You can't beat Newmar's craftsmanship but I want a diesel pusher. I would like to hear from owners of the Journey DP. What should I being on the lookout for? How reliable has it been? Thanks!

Once you go diesel you'll never go back to gas. What year Winnebago Journey are you looking at?

I haven't had structural problems with my 39K but the Norcold 1200 refrigerator was a problem. I did have a propane tank leak at a weld seam but Winnebago replaced that tank even though out of warranty. Paint looks good but I store it inside. Have had to do normal things like recaulk seams. I have over 130 miles. This has the CAT 330 and I did have to replace the Heui pump & injectors and a lift pump at different times both under a service contract. Life time fuel consumption is 7.8 mpg not adjusted for generator fuel use. Probably around 8.5 if I took the time to adjust for generator.

Any specific questions you have about the 39K?

Jouney 39K

We are looking at either a 2006 or 2007. The one the dealer has here in Ohio is a 2006. But I found a 2007 about a 1,000 miles away that is a little less.

Thanks!

1ciderdog has given you some very good information. My previous motorhome was a 2006 Winnebago Journey 36G with the 350 Caterpillar engine on the Freightliner chassis. I had very good luck with it except for the normal maintenance items. One thing to check would be the tire age. Anything over 5 to 7 years old should be replaced regardless of mileage. That year Caterpillar engine has had premature radiator fan bearing failure. You can do a search on this forum for others who have gone through this problem. Also the rear radiator/CAC cool pack should be cleaned annually to prevent engine overheating problems.

I enjoyed my Winnebago Journey and almost wish I had it back. They are built very well and if the floorplan meets your needs, Go For It and enjoy.

Thanks

Thanks for all the information. I have been try to learn all I can about diesels. Fortunately I have a lot of clients who drive Freightliners tractors for a living. They know where all the good Freightliner mechanics are in my area.
