Winter Camping

I'm contemplating the purchase of a 2001 35u Winnebago, or a 2000 Damon Intruder. Are either a good candidate for winter camping?

In Georgia I would do it with those rigs. In South Dakota I would give it some thought. Where are you planning to winter?

We're brand new to this. Probably just in the N. Georgia mountains to start. I'm leary about having my wifes first experiance be in the cold.
I wasn't sure about the insulation in either of these 2 motorhomes.

Welcome to the Forum.
I don't know about winter in the Mountains of Georgia but generally most rigs are OK above freezing. Make sure you have enclosed tanks which I think you do, in either rig. Wrap up your water hose and use a heat tape on it. Put a cover inside the windshield, small cushions in fan vents and make sure skylights are insulated. We use cushions and space blankets. Single pane windows may require plastic or space blanket. I like the Winne's but it gets down to condition. Lots of propane will be needed although we use little space heaters for the most part. Good luck.

Whatever you use to heat with be sure and leave a small vent in a window to supply breathing air. If you close up to tight you will run out of air and then you wont be able to enjoy your rig during the summer.

I have stayed in my Tradewinds down to 10 degrees f.I fill my water tank and disconnect the hose.I have the extend a stay for the propane. The main tank lasts about a week if it is cold and windy.Supplement electric heaters help but when it gets real cold they trick the furnace into not running and no heat goes to the tanks.A windshield cover and a foam block to stop air from under the dash help.Every coach has it's own draft locations so the more you seal the warmer you will be.
