One prime question with a car that small in a accident is in most cases the insurance companies would total it.So did the seller buy it back and have "Joe's cheap auto body" pc it back together??.In any case remember once you buy a accident car it follow the car in the title and devalues it for resale.Might even be a salvage title then which is tons worse.

If it was totaled it would have a "branded" title now and forever.

Made in America better check where the parts are made. They may be assembled in America but made in America NO!

I totally agree with you rvjimmy .....but ..... The profits earned stay in the USA and not sent back to a foreign country.

Man, I'd like to see the breakdown on how many dollars per vehicle actually stay in the USA.

My theory: that some of the cars we think of as "imported" rank at the top.

It's highly unlikely that any foreign company would tell you the truth about that! I suspect that most of their profits go home to wherever their head offices are located.

It might be a clever plan to start buying stuff made only by American made companies and see how long it takes to get your economy back in shape? Cars were the second biggest industry in the USA; giving it away seems like a bad idea to me.

On new cars sold here in the U.S. there is a sticker in the window that shows the percentage of parts that are from the US and Canada.
It also shows the country of origin for the engine and transmission.
sometimes this info is a seperate sticker and on sometimes it is on the main windowsticker.
I remember seeing a 05 chevy equinox that had a 3.5l V6 engine from china. The sadest part of that was it wasn't a "bought" engine but it was a GM designed pushrod engine. GM was obviously making some of thier engine over there.

The profits will go to the country where the manufacturer has their head office.

Buy a Japanese car, probably Tokyo. Korean, probably Seoul...and so forth.

The argument that they are assembled in the USA doesn't do much for the USA. If you bought a Ford, it would do more. You would employee people to build your car, and the profits will stay in the USA.

Remember the good old days when we all went to work, made a living and spent it on things made by our neighbours? Why do you think the US economy is wavering? Obama didn't do it by himself; everyone who is driving a foreign car to shop at Walmart is helping a bunch.

I guess it doesn't matter that this thread has gotten completely of topic since the OP bought a 2012 Smart Car.

Y'all get back to whatever the topic of choice may be.

No chrsyler home office is in mich.
Mazda makes a few cars here but thier home office is of course in Japan.

Huyndai Dealers around here put in thier ads "Made in the USA". however they sell something like 12 models here in the US. only 3 are built here.
The rest show less then 5% US/Canada content.

and there are odd one like the chevy aveo built 97% in korea.
It is built by Daywoo
Ford fesivas & aspires were built in korea by Kia as well.
