Tipping used to be for above average service. Now people want a $15 an hour minimum wage plus tips. Right now WA state has a $12.50/ hr min wage plus tips. A server can make over $30 an hour here. Then there are the places that put out a tip jar for the kitchen staff.

Wow, That sounds pretty darn condescending. Might be a good idea to just retire Ken!

But there is really no excuse for yelling and rudeness!

Interesting. I had no idea there were still stations with attendants to pump your gas.

There all over Oregon ITS GREAT I like it. theirs almost nothing better than pulling into a local gas station when its raining sideways and freezing cold and have an attendant come over and say can I help you sir. yes fill it and clean the windshield please. then set back and relax clean and dry it really doesn't get much better.

Tip a gas attendant?
I remember very well back in the 60's when working at gas stations even as a mechanic if the pumps got busy everyone was on gas duty. It didn't matter the weather you were expected to pump the gas, check the oil and anything else under the hood, air the tires if needed AND clean the windows all around spotless and getting heck from the customer if they weren't up to their standards.

I think those days are long gone. Haven't seen that since the first gas crunch back in the 70s!

At 16 I worked in a Texaco gas station ran 8 pumps on a busy HI way .most of the time I was by myself pumped gas, changed tires, did oil and lub jobs plus kept the place spotless .I run my ass off for a 1.25 plus he gave me free gas. those were the days it was fun

I've lived in Oregon most of my life. You can pump your own gas during certain hours in certain parts of Eastern Oregon. You can always pump your own diesel. For much of the State, along the I-5 corridor, you are not permitted to pump your own gasoline.

Not state-wide but there's a Shell station close by in Arizona that will do full service for you. Very, very pleasant, doesn't accept tips and fuel is comparable to others. It's a nice change!

I just filled our motor home myself at self service islands at the Shell station on hwy 97 in Biggs, Oregon. Signs on pumps said self serve. I pumped gasoline.
