yowie zowie
We just made a long run of about 12 hours last night. All went fine little tired but......1/4 mile from our distination, literally. I made a turn down the little dark street my mom lives on. it is kind of open suburb . the street was dark !! As I made my turn we were blasted with the eye opening odor of a skunk. he must have been on the edge of the road and I must of scared him so he gave us a blast from must been 5 feet. it immediately filled the coach. only time was more pungent was a time brother and I caught a young one by hand. I plan on washing the outside today but need some ideas on getting the lingering aroma out. it is either disapating or we are getting immune to it.(hope not) guess he put his little tail pretty hi and let her fly

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't....our dog got hit a few years back, and we could still smell it on him for a couple of months.
But don't you wish now that you had only gone 8 hours and stopped for a rest??

I tried googling "Removing skunk odor" and there is lots of information out there. I agree that the first step should be a very thorough washing of the outside. That would probably help with the lingering odor inside.

We used to wash our farm dogs in tomato juice, but I hardly think that would work for you.

Since the skunk didn't get inside the RV, simply wash the outside with whatever you usually use to wash it down. Make sure to wash tires and wheels if they were sprayed. Various auto parts stores and pet stores sell skunk specific deodorizers if it's still an issue. I ran over a skunk near Telluride, CO and because of water conservation and car wash bans the odor was still with me after visits to Los Angeles and San Francisco. I finally lost the smell after a rain storm in the Sierra Nevadas!

Here's the recipe I use when our dog gets in the way of a skunk. It works! It doesn't cover up the odor, it eliminates it.
Combine one box of baking soda, a 32 ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and a tablespoon of dish detergent. Add this solution to a bucket of water and mix.
Apply and rub a little to penetrate. Rinse. Done!

This is real close to what I had to use on my dog it worked, that's when the wife and dog got sprayed, wife wasn't to bad and I lived with it but I did give her a hard time about it. I still laugh about it to this day. She went to work and everyone could smell a skunk but didn't know where the smell was coming from and she was silent, and she didn't think it was that bad, I told her it was.

Myth Busters tested quite a few "home brews" and came to the conclusion that store bought skunk oder removal worked the best.
