If you're talking about the exhaust port, I wouldn't put an acrylic coating on an exhaust.

We have a metal door with a screen where the hot water tank is and waxed it with no issues.

On the painted metal access door yes, not the screen itself...it would just burn off anyway. I also do the metal window frames and other metal parts that are painted...no issues.

Are you planning on using this on the entire coach? If so I would rethink this. I did my fiberglass roof on my last coach and wished I did not. It looked great for a while until things started to peel away. If that happens you need to strip it all off before you can do anything else. I only use a good wax now and stay away from that stuff, good luck.

I used Shine-On, 2 years ago on my FW and just recently reapplied it to the front cap. For the reapply, I didn't have to strip the old off, just cleaned the front cap and wiped new coat on. I have been impressed so far, cost is about $100 for a begin kit which includes a stripper for the first time coat. I haven't had to wax my FW in 2 years now but I will probably do a second reapply this summer due to branch scratches.

Just so you know, ZEP is not a wax, but an acrylic floor finish, similar to a wood finish. Since it is used on floors, it does not have any UV protection. Hence, it will begin to flake off if let to sit in the sun for extended periods of time.
I did my mh 6-7 years ago and am very pleased with the result, It looks great. However, the passenger side is exposed to the direct sun when parked at home. Last year I stripped off the passenger side with ZEP stripper and recoated. The Drivers side looks just as good as the day I put it on, though I have recoated it a couple times after a good cleaning.
Since it is a finish, any dirt or blemish that is not removed before application will become trapped beneath the finish. So, a thorough cleaning before application is necessary..
And to answer your question, yes, it is ok to put it on the metal water heater cover.
Good Luck!

I used ZEP on my previous 2000 Dp MH -with good results. AT about 10 years old. Fiberglass was cream color and did not yellow. ZEP held up for about 5 years until I traded RV in 2015.
The key to success is preparation, search for discussions on prep. Good cleaning, scrub with BKF (Bar Keepers Friend) first few coats will look hazy but additional coats (4 or 5) go crystal clear. Reapply annually, good wash with non wax car soap or Simple Green and I used 2 coats. Only flaking I had was top of front cap mainly due to poor prep. Cleaned and reapplied without problems. It goes over and protects decals and trim. (NOT GLASS)
If your RV is new a regular wax may be a better option until the fiberglass ages or starts to oxidize.
When you get a chance, post your year and model RV in your signature, helps get more specific responses.
Welcome to IRV2
