Patience, my hungry friend. Madame wants to wait until after the Memorial Day rally is over before starting another meal thread. It will be ready to post before I leave for Miller Creek and as long as I don't get lost trying to get there (got the chicken legs ready, Jim?), it should be safe.

What happened?? 59 people signed up saying that they would like to come to the rally, and then only 25 people plucked down the money to come.. Oh well, guess we'll just have to make do and try to have fun with out them..

That's not unusual, cb5300. When it comes time to pay the piper, it can be difficult, especially with the way the economy & job security has been.

Rest assured, though, those that attend will definitely have a good time. Our Rallies are always fun & you can't beat making new & reuniting with old friends.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

With 1/2 the folks, we get to have twice the fun. Their loss, our gain.

And Jim, we were at the GC 10 years ago and I just want to see if the erosion has gotten any worse.

some times the amount of a rally keeps some away,I'm talking about the price.I noticed that the camp rents for a week around $187 and maybe some are just coming to camp and walk around and meet the good folks who get on IRV2?

As a wagonmaster for two National Rallies, I can tell you that it is VERY disheartening when you see the preliminary signup list dwindle down to half the original number. However, the only way to pull together all the elements of a week long event (some 12-16 months in advance) is by gauging interest and attendance through that preliminary list.

The average person, who has never hosted a week long event, has no concept of the rigorous detail that goes into planning a national rally. When everything is based on the interest posted on that preliminary signup sheet is not fulfilled on the actual attendee list, it places the wagonmaster in a big predicament.

Binding contracts for site reservations, caterers, entertainment venues, etc are made and it doesn’t matter to the “vendor” how many attend…they’ll get the money agreed upon whether it’s 100 people or 50 people.

There are a myriad of understandable circumstances that prevent some from coming, but in the interest of raising awareness, there are at least as many consequences a wagonmaster must face when the numbers on the preliminary list and actual attendee list don’t add up.

DO SOMETHING NICE TODAY
HUG A WAGONMASTER - THEY DESERVE IT!

A great deal of planning goes into the rally price package for an entire week’s worth of memorable events and every effort is made to keep the cost as low as possible so people can afford to come.

The 2010 rally price covers 6 nights site fees, four catered meals, entertainment during the “opening night” ceremonies and a train ride to the Grand Canyon with all the bells and whistles. It also covers welcome packets, name tags, serviceware for the meals and a vast array of other expenses involved throughout the week for every person who attends. It's called a "rally price package".

Yes, anyone can come and rent a site at the same resort for the week and meet the folks on irv2 during walks around the park. But the enchantment, the excitement, the "mystique" of attending a national rally is being able to participate in the planned events all week long with fellow attendees. Anyone who has ever attended a national rally knows what I’m talking about - It’s like coming to a big family reunion.

One week’s stay in the same park - $187.00
One week spent enjoying the commaradrie of old friends
and the thrill of making new friends
PRICELESS
