I'm new to RVing and to iRV2, and have been to only one national rally -- the Good Sam rally last fall in Atlanta. How does the iRV2 national rally differ from GS and other national rallies? What would make it *the* rally to attend if I only went to one?

My take is each rally has something unique to offer its attendees.

Question, Have you read Mike’s (aka DriVer’s) post on the 2014 iRV2 National Really? If not, I’d suggest you read it and the comments other member have made thus far.

I can tell you the main difference, since we're much smaller than a GS rally, we're "family" & there's much more of a camaraderie & sense of belonging at iRV2 rallies. You'll park next to a stranger when you arrive but you'll be having drinks under each others awnings & have made a real friend by the time the rally is over.

You can also read back through the iRV2 Rally Forum threads to get a feel for what past rallies offered. Somewhere in there is a blog I wrote for the '09 our region hosted.

I've been to GS rallies & I just don't get that same feeling with them. They're so HUGE & there's so many attendees that you're lucky if you even see they people parked next to you.

GS may have the big $$$'s for 8a-5p seminars daily & prominent entertainment, but it doesn't compare to the intimacy of our rallies.

I could not agree more with Lori's comments on the IRV2 rally. We attended our first in 2012 at Bethpage, VA. We made friends with several people and have become very close over the last two years, even tho there is a good distance between us. We never attended a GS rally because they are so expensive, so I cannot compare. Give the IRV2 Rally a try and I don't think you will be disappointed.

altho i have not attended any rally yet, but i would be inclined to attend a rv2 rally. an like stated above, we are family, an thats wht i have gotten out of this site.

Well said Lori. Last years Rally was smaller but you got to meet everyone and talk and have a great time. Love sharing places to go and see.

Another key difference is that you will likely find yourself boondocking in the middle of a field at a Good Sam's National Rally while you'll generally have full hookups at an RV Park for an iRV2 National Rally.

Rusty nailed it. I am into creature comforts when it comes to (usually) hot weather most rallys happen in. Power is a big plus. Not power from some giant generator roaring a few sites down the line in a field or parking lot.
We have been to several iRV2 rallies. Some were very good, some were good and there were some 'also rans'.
Just my opinion of course, but MsC and I agree that some of the better ones were smaller and perhaps more family feeling. Large crowds give me the heebie jeebies. I am uncomfortable in the middle of large crowds of people I don't know. After one of our iRV2 get-togethers you will have friends or acquaintances you can at least be at ease with.

Just as an FYI GS has postponed their national rallies for year 2014. Marcus IMO is trying to engineer greater opportunities to increase his profit margins!

I don't think I'll be attending this year. But the rallies in the past sounded fun. Look at it this way you could do an IRV2 rally this year and some other rally the next and make up your own mind. You'll then have attended three different types. As a family rally is the demographics of the people attending fairly broad? Or is it better to wait until a person is in a later life state?

This will be our first rally and looking forward to it.We will be in Bath Maine tell Aug the 15Th so we will take our time and make a few art shows as we make our way down the coast.
