Well since its not really THE official 2011 rally thread I guess its ok that anything goes! It started out as a question and answer post and the rally just evolved, thanks to Driver. I too agree this one needs to be closed and an official one needs to be started.

We could keep this thread open, just rename it to something like "Rally Location Suggestions". That way, we can continue to get input on what you all want in a National Rally & DriVer will get the 2011 National Rally thread title when he's ready to officially open the registration on Bethpage.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Since this is more/less a suggestion thread for rally locations, we are stopping by Custer SD tomorrow or wednesday and see how the folks at Broken Arrow would feel about a rally there in 2012. Questions/things to ask them?

"Doc, does this mean you would be the wagon master for one in Custer?? "

These Nationals are pretty complicated it appears and that might be more than I would want to handle alone and 1700 miles from home. That said, we are going to discuss the possibility with the CG owners. I am pretty much a neophyte when it comes to rally hosting and a stark newbie when dealing with anything like a National. I certainly would not be able to go into such detail as Mike has done for the 10th Reunion Rally in October. Still we really would like to see IRV2 come to the Hills.
Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Hill City Railroad, WindCave and Jewell Cave National Parks, the list goes on and on. It is an amazing portion of the nation and we love it here.
But, others may not feel the same as we do about this part of the country.
What say ye all ?? Would you come here?

I'd love to come to that area of the country for a National, doc.

Even though a wagonmaster (or team) would have many responsibilities for a National, they wouldn't be alone in it. The staff here & other long-time members have National Rally experience & I'm sure would support, provide advice & help whenever needed (myself included).

Lori, looks like we will have to look else where. We are here in Broken Arrow right now and they only have 40 FHU sites. They did a 25 rig Eagle Bus Conversion last year, but with their regular traffic, they figure something like 35-45 rigs might be a little overwhelming.
Still would like to see a Rally in the Hills however. What do you think of Rafter J. They are big enough and have a good reputation, but sometimes have a little bit of arrogance problem. Going to try and see what they have to say before we leave.

Doc there are a lot of campgrounds in the Custer area,we stayed at Fort Welikit, and enjoyed our stay there. Not sure how many sites they have though and can't find out on their website. While in the area, drive through, but DON"T go by your GPS it isn't right,if you went by it you would probably be trying to take a rig through a tunnel.

Hi All,

Hey Doc,

I have said on here more then once "As long as I own the lake house, I won't do a summer Rally"! However if it was in April/May or Sept./Oct I would go to it! Also I would be willing to help anyway I could, once I was there! Just my 2 cents worth!

Hey Doc. Go up the road a bit and talk with the people at the Rafter J Bar. Big and beautiful. By 2012 I should have the flexibility to help.

Probably goes without saying that no rally should be scheduled in that area around the time of the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally.

Moderator: Is the name of this thread going to be changed anytime soon?
