My wife just made a comment. " I have been to the last 2 rallies and I can count on 1 hand the number of children that attended. The older people like cooler weather in general." I tend to agree with her on the cooler weather also.

Hi all,

I would love to go to another National Rally, I was at the 1st one at MB and the one in TN! I also think one at Colonial Williamsburg would be great in May or Oct. Just my 2 cents worth!

Lori & Jim are ON POINT. Cooler & Cheaper = ATTENDANCE
Include weekend days and even kids and working folk can participate albeit maybe not the entire event...half a loaf better than no loaf

Unfortunately we can't make all the people happy all the time. What works well for some won't work well for others. The most common issues are what region it's going to be, what time of the year and the total cost. This is one of the reasons why it took me so long to chime in and ultimately appoint the only person who stepped up to be the wagon master. If it were up to me, I'd rather just get rid of the name "National" and encourage members to have more regional rallies and help promote them so they are all highly successful. This would remove all the drama about the "official" national which often serves one function, to polarize a fine group of people.

There is precedence and demand for an Official National so we will continue to have it and unfortunately the debate about when, where and all the other details will never cease. Regardless, it will be a great even and those who attend will hopefully have a wonderful time!

That being said, it's perfectly fine to have a National in late spring, summer or early fall. It would be great to have some in the summer for kids and it would be just as equally great to have some earlier and later in the season for the members who enjoy traveling at those times better. In the end it's not about one size fits all and we simply need to be flexible and realistic that it's OK change things up a little to meet the various needs of our members.

I agree also.

I have an alternate date to announce in cooler weather. Same place approximately $15 per day cheaper. Watchin' the Benjamines!

That's great, Mike. A lot of members have expressed their requests for the "shoulder seasons" in this thread. We look forward to reading what you have in mind.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

The wife and I have discussed it and we won't go the first week in August.

As for accommodating different groups with the summer venue for the hand full of kids and grand kids, we have had summer National rallies for many years. How about accommodating the other than summer majority.

My wife and I would prefer the October dates. We will pass on any date during the summer months.
Waiting for the alternate proposal from the Wagonmaster

I agree with the possible change of season. Like Depchief, I will not attend any rally during the summer months, we don't even go out camping during the summer. I think a change could help attendance, let's try it and see. Attendance can't be any lower then it has been these last few years

We have a couple of the kids that attended the 2009 National Rally, they had a great time!

We actually like the idea of "off" season rallies for many of the same reasons (cost, cooler weather, etc). We're going to the 10th Anniversary Rally this October as we happen to be tracked out at that time (year-round school), and would welcome a rally in that time frame next year (October 2011) in Bethpage! April 2011 would also be a possibility.

The National Rally in Perrin, Texas that so many of you did not attend was indeed all about the "Kids" to include my 2 Grandsons who have attended 4 National Rallies to date. They have made many great friends & memories for a lifetime.

It was in the middle of Texas in the heart of summer and guess what - we all survived and not only survived but thanks to the Wagonmaster, Sandy Creekmore, had an unforgettable experience because of the "kids".

They renewed those friendships in Arizona and even made more friends.

I am certain they will miss not being able to attend future National Rallies.
