We may have found a campground in NC --- it is at Greensboro, NC --- a good days drive (6 hours) from Atlanta and then it leaves about 4 1/2 hours to Urbanna for the next day. The name of the campground is --- Greensboro Campground and is just off of the highway. Don't know if you are or not but, it is a Good Sam Park member so there would be a 10% discound from their fees (last year's) of $30 to $35 per night. Coming back, we are thinking the Tom Johnson Camping Center in Concord, NC (also a Good Sam Park). Fees from last year were $25 to $30 per night. I have not yet called to make reservations.

The Greensboro park looks like what we have been searching for. Would have liked to been a bit further north, but there is very little to choose from. Thanks guys, you have saved us much work and. worry over a place to stay. Great job

Doc,

Don't forget you had a couple of responses when you posted this question in the SE forum. Since then, I found a link to Birchwood Campground in Durham. Even though it didn't get particularly high ratings in the TL Directory, it might be ok for an overnight stay and it gets you a little closer to VA. Also, someone else on that thread suggested a state park east of Durham.

See you in a couple of weeks.

Thanks D&J. I looked at the Falls Creek SP but they are closed the entire month of October due to paving in the park. That looks like it is prime camping time, but they do what and when they can I guess. Birchwood looks good too. We really don't care where, even have a feeler out for Concord Mills just north of Charlotte. Trying to e-mail security and not having a lot of luck. We have done Cabelas in the west and figure Bass Pro might be as gracious as their competitor.
Wish we were heaing out today. Weather is SOOOOOOO good.
alas, have an airport run this PM and then off!
