About to take the plunge

Good Morning all, I have just retired as a Calgary Fire fighter and Im about to take the plunge into RVing. Ive just turned 60 (never thought Id make it) and we've been blessed with a wonderful 6 year old girl. We have been soaking in as much info as we can concerning which unit to buy and I believe we've settled on picking up a Newmar Dutch Star or Mountain Aire in the 2002 - 2003 area. Our intent is to travel Canada and the States and look for a place to live that deserves our Daughter. Now we just have to find the right vehicle for a reasonable cost. Are we better off purchasing privately or through a dealer. Its difficult to tell who is giving you the straight goods these days. Cheers

From NH. I've bought from both. If private sale try to see service records, A well maintained coach can make the difference, from either. Good luck and always check the tires for date codes, five year old tires are on there way to being replaced regardless of what they look like. That is a costly buy if they are needed. Good luck and have a great retirement. Safe travels.

I think who you buy from boils down to the "luck of the draw"

Here's a place to start dad larry,,, Tire Tech Information - Determining the Age of a Tire
As said,,, age is VERY important on rv tires !! Most never get worn out due to tread depth,,, just age... And can be VERY expensive to replace... Other basic things besides maintenence records are water leaks, make sure Everything works, on shore power, generator, etc... Good luck and Congrads !!!
