Aloha from new member
Hi all. First off, let me say my wife and l do not own an rv, put have rented in the past and have enjoyed traveling and visiting family.Grew up in so. Ca, but have lived on Maui now for 35 years (no rvs allowed).Retired from Marriott hotel corp a year ago(eng.dept.) and wife still working there (since 1976). Hoping to get away soon for more traveling. We rent in San Diego and travel througuout ca and nev visiting family.Have made 6 such trips since 2001, the longest being 21 days (grand canyon, vegas, reno, death valley total about 2200 miles our first trip ever).Been reading this forum for about 2 years now and really enjoy it. I have learned so much about the lifestyle i could probably get a job at the rental agency and do a better job than some we have dealt with lol. Well, glad to have a chance to listen and maybe to respond to some folks here.,Aloha

dstro007, Welcome to the forum. Yes a lot can be learned in this forum. I too live in Hawaii, Oahu. For me this forum is a great way to daydream about RVing. I own and store a Class A on the mainland and am able to get out there 2-4 times a year to use my toy. Just returned from a six week trip all through central and southern California, parts of Navada and Arizona. Now that I am back on the Islands the best I can do is spend endless hours reading these forums and dreaming about upcoming trips in the future. It's great living here but the RVing on the mainland sure is nice too.

Welcome. If you guys ever get a motorhome we might be interested in a motorhome swap for a week or two. Time in Alaska for time Hawaii seems like a fair trade...

Mahalo from Maui
Thank you all for your kind welcome. My wife had a question regarding on board washer/dryers. What are the capacities compared to res. units, and how much water do they use for a full load? She is amazed at the idea of doing laundry in an rv., although we have met some fun people in our limited laundry chores at some parks. My question is about sat tv. Can you watch different channels on different tvs at the same time? Thanks again for the warm welcomes. Dave & Nina

Welcome to the forum from a San Diego County resident. I am sure that lots of experienced people will comment on your questions. They are the same that we had when researching for our coach soon to be built coach.
In answer to your question about water usage. We were told that you will most likely not be using the washer when dry camping, but when hooked up to a water source ( both for delivery and discharge). That sort of tells me that it is not like the He model that we have in the S&B. But that is okay. Some have suggested that they wash/dry while traveling down the road. If you have enough capacity (fresh and waste) for this...I guess that this is doable. Before we try it, I will contact the W/D manufacturer to see if I am shortening the life of the units while operating them in a moving vehicle. I expect there are some interesting dynamic loading scenarios doing this sort of thing. Perhaps others can comment based upon first hand experience.
When we were first married, 45 years ago, we didn't have a W/D in our apartment. We instead had to take our only form of transportation, a motor cycle, to the laundromat, grocery shopping, etc. Now with our coach the W/D would have been a deal breaker. Meaning DW insisted that it be so. Happy Wife...Happy life!
As for your question about different channels on different TVs at the same time I've been assured that this is doable on our coach. I don't however know if it is because of the system being installed (Winegard Traveler HD configured for Directv) or not. The affirmative response was received from the sales folks for every coach that we looked at...so it is highly likely that it is the norm to be able to do what you want to do. Once again, the more experienced RV'ers are likely to provide first hand knowledge.
Best of luck.
-Jerry
