America here I come!

Hello Everyone! Just bought a 31 foot 94 Fleetwood Flair. I have learned more about RVs in the last few months then I thought I ever needed to know. The main reason for buying the motorhome is to do an around the country trip while the kids are on summer vacation. I find it a little intimading but was able to drive it with no problems. Next I will work on my backing up skills. When I purchased it I had planned on investing at least another 2,500 into to make it up to par. What I did not anticipate is the price of refrigerators. I had originally thought about $800 but I am only finding about $1200 and up. Any suggestions on that? My generator seems to need a new starter but that should be fairily minimal I am thinking. However, a friend of mine was up on the roof the other day and broke the sunroof. Not really his fault as it was all dry rotted and probably would have come off the first good branch I hit. I cannot find those replacements online so I was wondering how much that would cost. I believe it is just the cover that is broken. For now it is duck taped until I get it fixed...hope that holds. The kids and I are excited about the new purchase. I just hope it does not wind up costing me everything I have...I guess we will soon see!

Hi windydaboo and welcome to iRv2. Buying an older RV often leads to challenges finding parts, but they usually end up serving well.

Yes, replacement absorption fridges are very expensive. You didn't say what was wrong with yours, so its hard to offer suggestions. It may not need replacement at all, or perhaps a new cooling unit would do the job.

Skylights...did you mean the typical plastic roof vent that cranks open, or a fixed skylight? If the vent, what brand is it? Replacements are usually available, though some brands or sizes can be hard to find.

May I suggest that you ask these questions in posts to the appropriate forum within irv2, e.g. Motorhome Problems & Solutions or Systems & Appliances. You will get more answers that way. It is best to put one question per message.
