Another dumbass newbie

Howdy, folks!! I'm another dumbass newbie with the itch to see the country through the windshield of my pickup truck, towing a little house behind me. I've never owned an RV. I had always thought I could get by with my Tundra pulling a compact TT, but my girlfriend has informed me that we need a small fifth wheel type of trailer. Which means I'm looking for a used diesel 3/4 ton (as they used to say) with most of the bells and whistles, the power to climb hills and descend safely. Oh, and btw, I'm also looking for a good buy on a <30 foot, Four Season 5th wheel for backroad adventures. I value the experience of others, so if anyone wants to offer advice or suggest a direction to search, feel free. I'm in Carolina so certain brands (Artic Fox, Glacier Peak) are less available here than in the west. I may not full time it, but I have hopes of traveling half the year, a month or two at a time. There. I said it.

from WA State.
Sounds like you've got at least an idea of where to start.

Browse the Travel Trailer and 5th wheel forums under the RV Forums tab. You'll get lots of info there.

Good luck and Happy Trails!

Sorry to hear your Granddad died. Did he leave you enough to buy a new or used trailer?

My advice is to make sure your girlfriend likes the layout of the trailer...If momma ain't happy nobody is happy.

I'm thinking about getting a new fifth wheel and a lightly used Silverado 2500. My favorite flavor today is the Artic Fox 27-5L, and the GF definitely chooses the layout.

I had a Nash 22H travel trailer made by Northwood and it was very well built. Friend of mine had a 27 foot Artic Fox and liked it.

Overall Northwood trailers are pretty well made.

Welcome and congrats on the new rig.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share.

Do the research and make sure the floor plan works and that you have a "big" enough truck to do the job.

Enjoy the adventure.
