Talking Another Newbie

Hey all - We bought a 2012 Forest River Wind Jammer 3008W last October and just returned from our first ever camping trip to "LA" (Lower Alabama). Everything went as smooth as silk and the DW and I had a great time - and we're looking forward to many more trips in the future. I want to thank everyone for all the info they provide on the site. We went from totally overwhelmed to "pretty comfortable" because of learning so much over the last few months from everyone's posts. Of course, some of the advise caused us to invest a little more than we anticipated on equipment and tow vehicle - but it was money well spent. We originally expected to tow our 8,300 lb (GVWR) Wind Jammer with our new 2011 Tahoe, but after reading, learning and calculating, I determined the Tahoe was at its top end capacity - and may not have anything left to give if there were some road emergency (weather conditions, traffic emergency, etc.). So I looked for a used F-350, but couldn't find one (I know its more than needed, but we're already considering upgrading to a large 5th wheel). I did find and purchase a 2008 F-450 Diesel Dually which I'm confident will tow any 5th wheel we can afford to purchase (LOL!). Other purchases included: upgrading from China tires to Maxxis; adding a TPMS, power surge protecter, X-chocks, tire covers - and countless other items that provide safety or convenience. My DW and I are very "Happy Campers". Thanks again for all the info.

Welcome Windjammer and Ditto on the help you can get here. I have found answers to questions I didn't even know I needed to ask. And yes, if you spend a lot of time cruising the forum YOU WILL SPEND MORE MONEY. Somebody has always found a new must have. We love Ala., we have a son in Rogersville, works for TVA. Have you guys ever been to Smith Lake? We were thinking of trying it on one of or trips that way. Happy travels and do stay tuned for the latest and greatest.

Howdy and welcome to the forum! LOL, I remember when we started looking at trailers to pull with our Tahoe...we ended up buying a motorhome. Funny how that works out!!! Enjoy your new rig.

Wow--a F450--you were wise in that investment. You should be set for almost any size 5er that is in your future. Enjoy the good life and be safe.

Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to getting to know as many of you as I can through the Forum and possibly on the road, too.

new2RVn -- We've never been to Smith Lake. I've looked on the internet and found several campgrounds and parks around the Lake Guntersville area, though. We'll try to give them a visit some day.

Historyljc -- We have always gone to the in-law's condo in Destin in the past. This was our first trip to Lower Alabama. We stayed in Foley and spent a day in Fairhope at their annual Arts/Crafts festival last weekend. We also drove to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach - and checked out Gulf State Park. We definitely want to make some return trips - soon!
