Hello All! Just checking in and am glad to be a part of this site. I have been RVing for 10 years and am now an owner of a 2007 Fleetwood Excursion 40E Cat C7 that I bought last fall. Am very satisfied with it as this is my first diesel and, man, what a different and pleasurable driving change! Love it.
I do have a question about the water heater (WH). It's an Atwood GE16EXT that is not delivering hot water. The outside sprayer valves are closed and I've read the problem is the mixing valve (MV) being clogged and in need of a cleaning. I never had a problem with either of my other coaches so this is new to me. I am very mechanically inclined but there is no access to the back of the WH. All I have is a small 10"x8" access panel near the rear toilet that lets me see it but not to really reach in to work on it. The W/D sits right above it and there's no other access. Since I can't get at the WH my first thought was to remove the hot water line exiting the MV and put a longer line in it's place out to the bathroom and fill that line with hot vinegar and let it soak. I also read that the adjustment screw needs to be worked back and forth to help break loose the deposits. Again, not having any access to work from has any other Excursion owners had this problem with their MV and how did you solve it? Did you end up pulling the WH?
Thank you so much.

Welcome to IRV2. My Bounder has access to the WH from a trap door underneath. FW would be able to assist as well. 800-322-8216.

Hi boss plow 1, I have a 2008 bounder diesel and i have had the same problem with the mixing valve since year one. The best solution to your problem is to pull the hot water heater out and undo the mixing valve. Then remove the screens and soak it in white vinegar for a day or so. This will loosen any deposits inside the mixing valve. Then replace the valve without any screens.i did this two years ago and I have had a nice hot shower since.

Thanks Leary54. I was afraid someone was going to say to pull the unit. Leaving in 2 weeks for Florida so I better get moving. When you pulled your unit did the water lines have enough play to come with it? I just absolutely have no room to work from the back through this tiny access hole. I know I have to disconnect the gas line from the outside and I'm also hoping the wiring will have enough play. Once I do this I'm sure it'll be easier the next time around (hope not) but knowing what to expect or do before I do this makes things a lot easier.
Thank you again for any help with this!

Boss plow 1 you will have enough hose to get behind the hot water heater. Just tilt the water heater down and you can reach the hoses. Hopefully you can get someone to help you. I did not so I used a shop cart.once the hoses are disconnected I was able to place the heater on the cart and removed the mixing valve. I also replaced the old hoses with new longer hoses. Good luck

Welcome to IRV2! It's great to have you join the bunch!
I can't help with your questions, but I would suggest you post questions over in the appropriate areas of the forum for best results. Not many folks hang out here in the Welcome area. Maybe one of the Moderators will move it for you.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
