Greetings,
We are a family of 4 (husband, wife, 4-yr old, 1.5-yr old) that is going from the typical brick-and-mortar abode to one on wheels. More specifically, my wife is completing her medical residency and we will be peppering across the country, staying anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, while she does locum tenens (temp) work and I take care of the kids. We hope to expose our children to the vast cultural and educational experiences, while as a family growing closer to one another again (medical school and residency, for anyone who doesn't know, can create deep relationship scars).
Anyway, if there are others who have been in similar positions we'd love to hear from you. At the moment, we are researching specific RV's. We'd like to get a Diesel Pusher with at least 3 slides, separate sleeping quarters for the kids (preferably something that doesn't have to made up every night), and 38+ feet. That's all we've narrowed down so far. Oh, and we want to stay near $80K (buying used, obviously). Down here in Texas there seem to be plenty of options that meet our price criteria, but we are treading carefully because I don't want a lemon. I know plenty about automobiles and mechanics (have a couple engineering degrees), but there are things unique to large coaches that I am just learning about.
Again, any input is welcome. I will begin scanning the forums in the meantime.
Regards,
Paul
p.s. and did I mention that we may choose to get pregnant and have child #3 while living in the RV!? Is that crazy? Anybody else done it?

Howdy Paul and welcome! Sounds like you and your family will be beginning quite an adventure and I wish you the best. Do you have any experience RVing? If not, start studyin' up!
You might have heard of the PPL consignment motorhome sales in Houston. They have a great website and a large inventory of previously-owned motorhomes. Lots of people buy from there, though I have no personal experience with them. Good luck to you!

Yes, I have been on a dozen or so 2-week journeys with my in-laws in a 33' Class C, so I have spent considerable time inside of an RV. Still, I have a LOT to learn about full-timing.

Hello again, Paul. Regarding your question about having another baby while fulltiming...I don't see why not!! I was remembering a blog that I read recently where a couple had begun full-timing and had a baby during that time. After a year or so they left the road and returned to a brick & mortar. If I can find the blog I will post the link for you. (There are TONS of full-timer blogs out there!!)

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great plan. Travel is one of the best educations a child can get. Somehow, I don't think you would be the first to have a pregnancy started in a motorhome.

Starting the pregnancy will be easy.
It's the ending I'm concerned about
Our preliminary thought is that we'll settle in somewhere near the grandparents at around 8 months gestation, and stay there until the baby is a couple months old and then hit the road again...assuming we haven't changed our minds about fulltiming by then. We can actually set up at the grandparents home because they have hookups and plenty of land/space.
