New Member Check-in with Questions

Hi,

Maggie & Jack, Jax, FL
I'm new to RVs, DH, not quite. Have used Thor Hurricane Class A. 2 adults, 2 Standard Poodles, & 1 Maine Coon who I haven't yet figured out how to bring w/o it smelling like a litter box. RV parked on heavily treed property.
1. I can't figure out the search function. I keep getting returns w no relation to my OP.
2. Since I can't figure that out, will someone kindly link me to threads on:
A. How to keep a.c. from draining onto awning?
B. How to clean and keep awning clean/free of mildew? Google gives me ads. The a/c and/or rain recently keep it constantly wet. The leaves are sticking and rotting and there are leaf-print stains. Awning was new when we bought the rig.
C. Two major compartments blew out when we took 5gal boxes of water w us to TN for eclipse. I assume one can simply order new bottoms for those compartments but is there a sturdier way we can replace these?
Thanks,
Maggie

Hi Maggie! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Use the search box at the upper right that says "powered by Google", not the Search option in the green menu bar. Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Here's where the search function is. Type in a few words here and you'll find the threads pertaining to your search.

When you level up the rig, tilt it slightly so the water runs the way you want it to go. Usually having the front slightly high works, but some tilt it away from the awning side. I'm talking an almost imperceptible tilt, nothing big.

Tough in a humid environment and out of the sun. Do your best to air-dry it on nice days, with awning extended so air and whatever sun is available can get to it. Roll it up occasionally to dump leaves and debris. Plan on washing it with a bleach solution fairly regularly - OxyClean or similar is simple and works pretty well. Brush off debris, wet the awning down with the bleach solution, then roll it up wet for 30 minutes. Re-deply the awning and rinse.

Plywood cut to fit? The real question is whether there is adequate support under them. 5 gallons of water is 40+ lbs, concentrated in a relatively small foot print. Then bounced up and down as you drive...

Thank you. Haven't tried fooling w the auto-levellers.
Won't be carrying that much water or stored that way again. Nevertheless, he's concerned. The plywood sounds like a good way to help distribute any weight so that should help in general. Going forward, a large part of the problem is that the screws were super-close to the edge of the liner. I'd be leery of even putting a suitcase in the same setup again. Thinking a 1/8" thick strip of metal super-glued a bit further from the edge of the liner and drill holes for the screws. There wasn't even room for small washers, the holes were that close to the edge.

For the cat box, I've seen where people put the cat box in one of the basement compartments, and then cut a hole in the floor above it so that the cat can get in and out of the basement.
Obviously the hole in the floor needs to be somewhere out of the way so you don't break a leg in it.
Some folks also add a screen to the compartment so that the compartment door can be opened so that the cat can hang out down there, have a view, and smell the outside air.

It really depends on the layout of your MH to decide placement of a liter box. We have one with a cover and are able to keep it in the hallway between kitchen and bedroom. We scoop every day, change liter every few days, and we have no odor issues.

My , PC,laptop and iPad all come up with the same page ; that barmcd posted the snapshot of; your smartphone app , because of limited screen space is giving you something entirely different .
Your going to need advice from others who use smart phones to access the forums.

Not a phone issue , probably just the way the APP deals with the screen space available.
