Electric awning motor replacement
Hello all - new to this forum stuff. I have a 2009 Tango travel trailer with a 9100 series Dometic power awning that the motor quit working on. I was able to purchase a replacement motor on eBay for $150 - plugged it in to the wires on the arm to test it and it works fine! First piece done!
Now I need to replace the motor. I have a dealership that will replace it for $100 but will take me several hrs to get it there, wait for repairs and get it back - not to mention the cost of gas!
I'm wondering if anyone has done this themselves and if you can give me some insight into the repair - is it feasible, how long should it take and what might complicate the process? Most concerned about the awning being spring loaded, and drilling out/replacing pop rivets. Help please!!!

If you do not feel safe working with torsion bars, don't do it. They can be dangerous. $100 bucks is not bad at all.

I know people who have replaced awning motors successfully, but they all, I think, had some experience beforehand. We had ours replaced and the mobile repair guy that did it made a mistake securing the springs and ended up with a busted hand. I would take it to the dealer, but that is just me.

Welcome to irv2.
The manufacturer's website should have a pdf that you can download with all the information you need. I had my motor replaced under a service contract but I think I could do it if I had to with the instructions provided by the manufacturer. But, alas, that was the old coach and I hope I don't have to think about such things for a long while.
If you do the work yourself please be very careful. As indicated above, a broken hand or arm is the price to be paid if something goes wrong.
