Are extended warranties worth the money for someone that is not a general handy-man?

bedlington, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences.
Extended warranties and the like, do not cover maintenance issues as well as many other normal ware and tear items. You will have to read the contract very carefully to understand what is covered and what is not. Even then, if you do have a problem, the repair facility must diagnose the problem (which you are responsible for), contact the warranty company and gain authorization prior to repairs being made. If they use the wrong wording (items not covered), then they have a loop-hole in not covering something that could have been if another word (one that is covered & means the same thing) had been used in the conversation. If you are buying a new unit from a company still in business you will have a warranty that covers the construction. All other vendor supplied equipment carry their own warranty.
One thing that an extended warranty can possibly do is give you a sense of peace about owning a unit.
Let us know more specifics as to what you are looking at, how long you may have been rving, how often you will go and if you want to learn how to do your own minor repairs and maintenance.
Good luck. Enjoy the website and forums.
