Hi Everybody! I've been lurking around here for a while and was sent here by a friend who frequents the board. We have just purchased our first RV and have not even taken delivery yet. I did some camping more than 30 years ago so I don't really consider myself a rookie at camping but the RV thing is all new. We live in Hayward, WI and we still have a lot of snow on the ground yet so there's no real rush. The long range plan is to eventually become snowbirds/fulltimers but presenltly have about 7 years until retirement. The plan between now and then is to do short trips around our part of the upper midwest.
I have a lot to learn about the RV business and have already learned a lot from the posts on this and other boards.
I started looking for a used fifth wheel but liked the features on the new models and the prices were not that far off. We feel we got a sweet deal on our new home away from home. We also spent the extra money and got a slider hitch as I was instructed to do a couple local fifth wheel owner friends with crunched cabs.
I have several quandries that I know will be solved in the near future, the first being portable generator capacity. I do not anticipate running my AC that much and would not at all when boondocking. My unit needs 30 amp service to run it. I know that not using the AC cuts the need dramatically. Any input or experience on what I could get away with while boondocking would be welcomed.
We already have a couple outings planned but the first is yet to be determined and is going to be a short close to home trip to see how it goes. Two other couples we know bought TT's last summer so and we are looking forward to spending some long weekends with them away from the hustle and bustle around town.
We've both lived in Hayward our entire lives and if you have any questions about the area I'll do my best to answer them. Looking forward to reading your replies.

Welcome Cheddarhead to IRV2

Went thru and stopped to get your famous cheese on return trip from Alberta,Can. in 2000. Nice country may visit the Dells someday just passed thru there also, busy area.
Join the good people down in the TT section, have answers for everything and enjoy the forums.

cheddarhead, welcome to iRV2.com. You will find we are a group of fun loving RVers that like to help each other where we can so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am sure there is someone here that can give or find the answer you need. We look forwar to reading of your adventures and experiences. A 2000 watt Honda generator would probably do nicely to recharge batteries and run 120 volt stuff up to a small microwave/convection oven. You would have to practice self energy management but just remember not to run high wattage things at the same time and you should do fine. Good luck and enjoy!
