I have read with interest about the banging problem with the XCS front end. I was not aware of the service bullitin (32-04) that supposedly fixed the problem but I solved mine by replacing the stock 90/10 Bilstein shocks with Monroe 50/50 shocks. The 90/10 shocks you can compress by hand very easily but you cannot compress the 50/50 shocks by hand. I only get a bang on extreme bumps now.

My new problem is the polymer bushing on the front stabilizer bar that squeak constantly. I have taken them apart and lubricated them with special grease made for polymer or polyethene products and it will last for one day. Freightliner no longer offers replacement bushings (or the swaybar for that matter) for this application. Does anyone know where I can get replacement bushings for the fron swaybar?

Are you sure that it is the stabilizer bar that is squeaking? On my XCS, it was the front leaf springs. The tail of the driver's side spring, where it rubbed over the mounting point is the area where the rubbing and squeaking was coming from. Freightliner in Gaffney sent me a set of blocks which I installed myself to cure this problem. You might want to double check and then give them a call.

I'm pretty sure the squeking is coming from the polyethalene bushings where the stabilizer is attached to the spring plates. I removed the bar and bushings and applied a special grease I picked up at an auto parts made for this purpose. The squek went away for almoast a whole day before it started coming back after about 6 hours of driving. Very slightly at first and just as loud as ever the next day.

I will contact the folks in Gaffney and see what they have to offer. Thanks for the post.
