Talking Giddy, like a kid on his first day of kindergarten!

We are the proud parents of a 2016 Tiffin Allegro Open Road, 36 LA (Ford), presently garaged in St Petersburg, FL. As any new parents, we have so much to ask so please be gentle with us as we ask amateur questions and brag on every milestone our little family achieves.
The posts are so informative but really do expose how little we do know. By chance, is there a dictionary for abbreviations? 🤓
We will be heading up to Michigan soon for our first long road trip and would love some input on the following: best route planning tools, traveling with pets, toad towing, and tailgating (Go Gators!).
Along with any suggestions for newbies!
Thanks,
Linda, David, and Zoey (12 yr old Westie)

Hi Linda & Joey

Glad you have joined us all in the forum.

I use Mapquest for the basic route. Then I refine it a couple of apps for my I-Pad. CoPilot, Traffic, and Google Maps. You can also join FMCA and they have a trip planner you can use.

Ask as many questions as you need to. That's what this forum is about. Sharing ideas and tips.

Happy Trails!!!

Lind, David, and Zoey,

Welcome to the Forum! Congratulations on the Tiffin, you are going to love this way of life. Everyone here was new at one time and we all ask questions. There is a lot of knowledge here so just ask. A year ago we were in your shoes and we are still learning.

Try RVParky for CG's (campgrounds), it's a free app and can help a lot since you can set settings you want to find a CG for the night. There are gobs of apps for mapping out a route. Put it in a search engine and check them out to see what works for you.

Some of the advice we got a year ago. Camp in your driveway. Yep, that's what I said. If you camp in your driveway anything you forgot to pack you can just go in and get. You get used to your rig this way and how things work and are still close to home. Local CG's also are good to do this with. Still close to home if you have a problem.

We were told that CG"s often have high water pressure in their water lines so get a pressure regulator valve to add to the water line. Also water needs filtered so get a in-line filter. Both can be bought at Walmart for around $30. You'll avoid issues if you get these.

Ask at CG's for help or go to another camper (who may have a rig like yours or not) why they do something the way they have or could they suggest a better way to do something. "Hi, we're new to this, how do you level your rig?" We have done this several times and have had great results, got some good advice.

There is a forum here for people with pets, it's under the forum's tab. Lot's of people travel with them.

Where are you going in MI, we live there? You cannot take firewood from state to state so be careful of that. Get a good outdoor grill, you will want to spend a lot of time outside. Keep plenty of water in your black tank. When you buy items for inside, if they can do 2 duties it helps with weight and storage.

CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE often! Most of all , have fun! Lynne
