Greetings from San Diego, CA! 1973 Dodge Titan 22'

Greetings,

Just bought our first motorhome. After looking for a few months, all over San Diego County, we found our motorhome just around the corner from our home. It was indeed about a three minute drive from our home. Its a 22' 1973 Dodge R300 Titan with around 52,000 original miles. Fairly clean for its age. I haven't gone through it very carefully, but it does not appear to have been modified in its 39 glorious years. A pretty strong sounding 440-3 engine, without generator, with two swamp coolers, bathroom/shower combination, four burner stove, LP space heater, A/C-D/C-LP refrigerator, A/C & 12VDC systems, lots of cupboard space, etc...

The internet is a huge blessing. I'm learning a lot about this particular unit. I'm very excited to start fixing the very few things that need some attention. Overall, the motorhome doesn't need much other than a new set of 8x17.5 tires. I'm adding a Tire Pressure Monitoring System when the new tires get installed. It appears the Double Coin RT500 is the readily available tires for this odd size wheel. I think the model is 8R17.5/10 (although the manufacturer's website claims it to be a 12 ply).

Anyway, I'll be asking for help as I get more involved with it in the next few weeks.

Thanking you in advance,

Edgar Gonzalez

Welcome. Enjoy your new rig! Many helpful folks in this site. While on the focus of safety, consider installing a C02 and propane detector as well.

Thanks to all for the kind words...

Well, if you see a similar Titan on Highway 5 from San Diego to Portland, OR (and back hopefully), it'll more than likely be us. I'm planning that trip at the end of July. In the meantime, as soon as I get some new tires installed, I'll be testing it going east on Highway 8, through the mountains (towards AZ).

I'll certainly keep you updated with my progress.

Thanks again,

Edgar

You and iRV2 Forums - View Profile: 73DodgeTitan could start a Titan club. I've never even seen one until I saw both of yours on irv2!

Hi, Edgar!

Welcome, and congratulations on your purchase. Nice job finding it!

I also live in SD County. If you're planning a trip out toward the desert, I'd suggest a slightly different and more interesting route. Take SR-79/79 through Julian and drop down into the desert that way (or SR-22). The mountain roads will let you know how capable your rig is! Much nicer drive, too. If you want to re-enter I-8 to head into AZ, then you can easily drive south thru Ocotillo Wells and catch the freeway there.

I think the wildfire that started yesterday is getting under control, so all the mountain roads east of Julian should re-open soon if they haven't already.

Take care!
