Grumpy Ole Man

Hi, folks -

Many of you already know me as the grumpy old man in the Towing&hauling and 7.3L forums on TheDieselStop.com, where I've been very active for the past 12+ years. But things are kinda slow over there now, so I thought I'd spread my wings a bit and join up here. Yes, I'll still rail against folks that want to overload their tow vehicle because they are too cheap to buy enough truck for their wants. And yes, I know that's like beating my head against a brick wall.

Along with people not buying enough truck to pull their heavyweight trailers, up here in British Columbia, Canada one of the things the dealers do not tell you is that if your trailer weighs more than 10,120 Lbs you MUST have a drivers licence with a "House Trailer" endorsement.
I along with apparently many, many others did not know this before purchasing my 5th wheel, which just happens to weight more than 10,120 Lbs. I have since received my Code 51 endorsement but what I found out was that previously if I was in a crash my insurance would not have been valid.
I am passing this along to as many British Columbian's as possible so that they do not discover that they are not insured while towing their trailers.

WOW!
I'd sure hate to find THAT out the hard way...
I hope somebody posts that in its own stand-alone thread.
I'll bet a lot of folks would appreciate knowing about that before they buy.

Smokey,

Good luck on educating folks over here any better than over at The Diesel Stop. But over here we try to take the approach to make sure that the folks understand towing and weight ratings. We still get some that operate on passion and not facts.

You know the type...I have been pulling my 40' toy hauler with my short bed 3/4 ton diesel and once I added the air bags I do just fine. I don't have a clue what it weighs, but I can tell you it will be fine, so load it up and go for it.

So once they have the facts, hopefully they will listen to the right people.

Hi Smokey! I always enjoyed reading your comments at thedieselstop.com. I could always depend on you for educated and honest answers to my dumb questions. I soon found that thedieselstop.com site was more for "techies" that have forgotten more about diesels than I'll ever learn! I really enjoy this site as well as RV.Net. Welcome, I'll look forward to reading your posts!
